El Salvador International Airport

El Salvador International Airport (IATA: SAL, ICAO: MSLP), commonly known as Comalapa International Airport, is located about 50 km (30 miles) from San Salvador in El Salvador. It was built in the late 1970s to replace its predecessor, Ilopango International Airport, which is now used for military and charter aviation, but will be rehabilitated as an international airport by 2009. There are also plans to build a new airport on the Salvadoran coast of El Tamarindo, La Unión, along with tourist facilities on the beach or near to La Unión according to the demand that will be presented by the new modern port.

Religion

Tropical ResortAlthough almost half of El Salvador’s residents are Roman Catholic, Protestantism is growing rapidly and represents nearly 30% of the population. Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, Seventh-Day Adventist churches are all growing, as are Pentecostals and Mormons.

Agua Caliente

Agua Caliente is a municipality in the Chalatenango department of El Salvador. Agua Cliente, El Salvador is a village in the middle of Apopa and La Nueva Concepcion. It is mainly a live stock community. In the center of Agua Caliente there is a Catholic church, recently under construction, and a mini park. In late July 2007, the entire village began receiving running water, something only privileged well owners had before. Every Thursday morning from about eight to eleven there is a market place in the streets. This is when the majority of people buy their food and clothing items. Don’t forget to enjoy a pupusa a a local pupuseria. These is a vibrant environment in the aread. People are friendly and a courteous to visitors. Stop the warm water lagoon which gives the location its name “Agua Caliente = Hot water = Hot Springs.)

Atakama

Atakama (Valparaiso, Spanish. Desierto de Atacama) – Misty desert in South America. It belongs to najsuchszych areas in the world. Civil War

The Salvadoran Civil War was predominantly fought between the government of El Salvador against a coalition of four leftist guerrilla groups and one communist group known as the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), mainly between 1980 and 1992. A violent insurgency existed already in the 1970s.

The United States supported the Salvadoran government. In total, 75,000 people died in civil war.

Politics

The political framework of El Salvador is a presidential representative democratic republic with a multiform multi-party system. The President of El Salvador, currently Antonio Saca, is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Legislative Assembly. The Judiciary branch is independent of the executive and the legislative branches.

When to Go

El Salvador has a tropical climate with only two seasons: verano (dry season) from November to April, and invierno (wet season) from May to October. Almost the entire annual rainfall occurs during the rainy season and at night. Temperatures are based mostly on elevation in El Salvador. The coastal areas are the hottest, averaging 22-32°C (72-90°F) throughout the year; the central areas vary dramatically year-round, from 19°C (66°F) in the coldest months to 38°C (100°F) in the warmest; and the mountainous areas are always cool, with temperatures averaging 12-23°C (54-73°F).

The best time of year to visit is at the beginning or the end of the dry season, when it doesn’t rain every day and the roads are in good shape. More cultural festivals take place around these times. It’s advisable to avoid the holiday periods – it’s busy and prices are inflated. The main holiday periods are from Christmas through mid-January; Semana Santa, a week-long festival before Easter; and during the first week of August when San Salvador holds its annual festival. Many services also shut down during these periods. In the rainy season, prices are lower, beaches are less crowded and the evenings slightly cooler after the rainstorms.

San Salvador

San Salvador is the capital and largest city of the nation of El Salvador. The valley where it is located was earlier known as “El Valle de las Hamacas” (The Valley of the Hammocks in English) because of its high seismic activity. San Salvador is the second largest city in Central America. It covers an area of 568 km² (220 sq. mi.) and is home to nearly 2.2 million people. It is home to one-third of El Salvador’s population and one-half of the country’s wealth.

El Salvador

El Salvador (República de El Salvador) is a country in Central America. The area was originally called by the Pipil “Cuzhcatl”, in Spanish “Cuzcatlan”, which in Nahuatl means “The Land Of Precious Things”.

After the Spanish conquest the land was baptized by Spanish conquistadors as “Provincia De Nuestro Señor Jesucristo El Salvador Del Mundo”, (“Province Of Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Savior Of The World”), now abbreviated as “Republica de El Salvador”.

The country borders the Pacific Ocean between Guatemala and Honduras. With a population of approximately more than 6 million people, the small nation is undergoing rapid industrialization.
